Through SafeSport, USA Canoe/Kayak is committed to improving the development and safety of athletes and participants involved in sport. Unfortunately, sport can be a high-risk environment for misconduct, including child physical and sexual abuse. While child physical and sexual abuse is one type of misconduct, it is important to remember that this policy covers many inappropriate behaviors that do not involve children at all. This policy applies regardless of the ages of individuals involved in the alleged activity.
This policy applies to all USA Canoe/Kayak employees, coaches, contracted staff, volunteers, board members, committee and task force members, division officers and other individuals working with athletes or other sport participants while at a USA Canoe/Kayak event, whether or not they are employees of USA Canoe/Kayak (collectively, “constituents”).
The document will define areas of misconduct, expands background screen requirements, outlines best practices policies and includes information on how to report SafeSport issues.
Moving forward, USA Canoe/Kayak welcomes your comments and concerns as we all work together to provide a safe and fun sport environment for youth.
